News update: #Youth taking on cyberbullying for a safer Internet

Jasminejit Kaur, our amazing #Youth from Malaysia, was warmly welcomed as a panelist at the CyberSAFE’s cyberbullying versus resilience-building forum held by DiGi in Shah Alam, Malaysia. The forum took place on Thursday 2nd November 2017 and was an opportunity to discuss the root causes of cyberbullying. The panelists advised parents not to be so quick to panic when mistakes are made by children online. Jasminejit highlighted that controlling a child’s online activities instead of teaching them to be resilient is simply “taking the easy way out”. She added that it is better to “engage and build a relationship of trust with the child. You will never be able to keep up with them but parents must understand a bit of the lingo and platforms that they are using”.

The panel concluded that encouraging parents and children to engage in a healthy dialogue about digital skills, will only enhance children’s protections and resilience online.

The event also received a great coverage by a local news broadcaster, which is now available here.

Way to go, Jasmine!
