#WeListen Campaign 2016

In 2016, over 24 million children and young people worldwide reached out to child helplines. They had many questions that they wanted to ask, including psychological and mental health issues but also abuse and violence. 55% of all global contacts were girls.

In respect for Universal Children’s Day on Monday 20th November, we launched our new #WeListen Global Report for 2016 on our website, Facebook and Twitter. This was a continuation of the success of the previous #WeListen campaign released earlier this year.

The campaign ran across a period of five days, beginning with the release of the Global Report on Monday 20th November 2017 and every day thereafter with highlights and case studies from across the Americas and the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, Asia Pacific and Europe.

nearly 24.5 million contacts were made in 2016 alone

By using the hashtags #WeListen, #ENDViolence and #Right2BHeard, we were able to draw attention to the crucial role that child helplines play in responding to nearly 24.5 million contacts that were made in 2016 alone.

Overall, we were proud to see that we received an impressive level of social media engagement in response to our data. This included one Facebook post that reached over 57,000 individuals! This was an excellent opportunity to showcase how tirelessly our members work to ensure that every child’s voice is heard.
