Marking ten years of 116 in Kenya!

This March, we are celebrating ten years of ensuring children’s voices are heard in Kenya!

On 28th March 2008, Childline Kenya went live with the 116 number! This was a historic moment; Kenya was the first African nation to allocate the 116 number to the national child helpline. This was following a global resolution by the United Nations International Telecommunication Union, two years before. Childline Kenya instantly received more than 3000 calls per day, and to date has helped over 3 million children. Since 2008, more than 20 countries in Africa have adopted the 116 number.

Thanks to the 116 number, child helplines are making sure that children’s voices are heard!
