The 9th International Consultation of Child Helplines has drawn to a close, and it’s time for us to wrap up – no, really, it’s getting colder here in Toronto! Let’s take a look back at the last day of the meeting, a meeting that brought together child helpline staff and volunteers, youth council members, government representatives, technology experts and child protection agencies and actors from all around the world.

The day kicked off with a visit to the offices of our host, Kids Help Phone – not an actual visit, but a virtual tour, giving everybody at the International Consultation the chance to take a peek into the daily life of a child helpline counsellor.

This was followed by an incredible Youth Forum, which could be followed live via Facebook.

The afternoon brought us sessions on “Harnessing Big Data” and “APIs and Chatbots”, both looking at ways how information and technology are supporting and enhancing child protection services. Our child helpline members were also given the opportunity to showcase the work and achievement of their organisations.

The day was brought to a close by Katherine Hay, CEO of Kids Help Phone, and Sheila Donovan, interim Executive Director of Child Helpline International – though not before we were able to announce the name of the last of the five new Regional and Deputy Regional Representatives to be selected from across our membership to represent them in our international network. You can find out more about the new regional representatives here.

Here’s a gallery of images from the last day. We’ve had a great time – lots has been done, lots has been talked about, lots has been achieved. Experiences have been shared, ideas have been born, plans for the future have been hatched. Now everybody is heading home, but we’re all still bound together by one driving mission: to ensure that every child, everywhere, has a voice, and that no child – not a single one – remains unheard.
