International Child Helpline Day 2018: Fiji

The National Child Helpline is a free number that children can call on any phone from anywhere in Fiji. It is operational 24/7 and tended to by professional counsellors.

Outreach work with children and youth in Fiji

Through outreach projects, the message about the service is taken out to rural areas. Medical Services Pacific staff run Child Protection sessions and show children how they can use the Child Helpline. The mobile team visits schools, communities and special needs institutions all year round, and they have been able to reach a wide cross section of children. The Child Helpine is funded by the Fijian Government as part of its national child protection system. The Child Helpline has received over 37,480 calls to date, and counting! It is supported by the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation in Fiji. The project is implemented by Medical Services Pacific and is supported by three communications companies including Digicel, TFL Fiji and Vodaphone.
