eLearning: Counselling skills in emergency situations

We are happy to announce the launch of our new elearning module titled “Counselling Skills for Child Helplines: Good Practices during Emergency Situations.”

Targeted participants

This interactive handbook is targeted towards child helpline professionals and volunteers who are in direct contact with children and young people.

Aim and Topics

This elearning module is a combination of definitions, evidence-based good practices and interactive activities to strengthen child helpline staff’s knowledge of counselling skills during emergency situations, and specifically the current Covid-19 situation. The topics outlined in this interactive handbook include:

  • Adaptations faced by child helplines in emergency situations
  • Good practices in emergency situations in all steps of a contact
  • Good practices during Covid-19 in all steps of a contact
  • Recommendations of child-friendly ways to speak about Covid-19

The module has been developed as part of the Voices in Eastern and Southern Africa during Covid-19 and with the valuable input of all our partners who participated in the 2021 Community of Practice on Counselling Skills.
