28.05.2009CHI wins Microsoft Mobile Challenge
CHI was awarded third prize in the Microsoft Mobile Challenge for Development competition.
The prize of $5,000 was awarded to CHI's SMS project which is developing counselling services for children in need by SMS/text messaging. Global figures estimate that 1.5 billion children - or two out of every three children worldwide - live in countries where violence is part of everyday life. Child helplines all over the world want to ensure that more children who need help, no matter the subject, are able to reach someone who cares. Through offering an SMS text messaging service, alongside a telephone service, more children will have access to the life saving advice offered by child helplines. It also means that children in remote places with limited infrastructure will still be able to receive help when they need it. For more information on the project. |
