The Asia Pacific Fourth Regional Consultation took place in Mumbai, India from 14 - 16 January. The event coincided with Childline India’s thirteenth anniversary. Conference participants celebrated this momentus occasion alongside the users of the child helpline service: street children. more

On 5 October the ITU presented the Global Guidelines for Child Online Protection. The Guidelines were written by partners in the ITU Child Online Protection Initiative. CHI is very proud to be a partner in this initiative and the creation of the Guidelines. CHI recommends all partners and members to use the Guidelines in their work to keep children safe on line. more

The chair of the Aruban child helplines, Telefon pa Hubentud, presented Marta Santos Pais with the booklet ‘Violencia no ta bon! (Violence is not good!) in New York. Telefon pa Hubentud also was elected to continue to represent the Caribbean region in the NGO Advisory Council on violence against children. more

The economic crisis has caused a large increase in the number of children that is living on the street in the United States, according governmental counts. As options dwindle, these teenagers have to resort to illegal activities, according to National Runaway Switchboard, one of the child helpline members of CHI in the United States. more

03.09.2009Successful African Regional Consultation closes
The Fifth African Regional Consultation for Child Helplines was inspiring and thought provoking. Also it has been a great success for the children of Malawi. During the Consultation Yoneco Malawi had a child helpline centre in the conference centre. More than 350 calls were made to Yoneco in the three days of the Consultation. more

The successful Regional Consultation is midway with the start of day two. The workshop on child trafficking will continue. In the afternoon everybody present will visit a child helpline centre of Yoneco Malawi in Zomba. The Regional Consultation proves to a very valuable experience for everybody present.more
01.09.2009Fifth African Regional Consultation opened in Blantyre, Malawi
The Fifth African Regional Consultation for child helplines was opened today by the Minister for Gender and Child Development of Malawi, Honorary Minister Katiali, MP. Representatives from 20 countries, child helplines, child rights organisations and donor organisation are present. During three days they will exchange knowledge, information and experience from their work. The first day of the Consultation will focus on child trafficking and how child helplines can help in preventing it. The day will be closed with a gala dinner for all people present. more
31.08.2009Regional Consultation in Blantyre, Malawi
From 1 to 3 September CHI and Yoneco Malawi will be hosting the Fifth African Regional Consultation (RC) in Blantyre, Malawi. The theme of this RC is protecting children from child trafficking. During the RC child helplines from the African region and partners will participate in a intensive workshop on this issue, discuss issues related to child helplines in general, exchange knowledge and celebrate the network. more

11.02.2009Huge rise in child sex abuse calls (ChildLine UK)
A total of 13,237 children called the helpline in 2007/08 saying they were victims of sexual abuse - more than a 50% increase over three years. The figures showed that more than 36 children, including one aged under seven, called ChildLine every day last year saying they were victims of sexual abuse. Almost 6,000 children said they had been raped. more
