Taskforces and groups

Members of the CHI taskforces are appointed by their peers in each of the regions.  They are charged with steering the work of CHI through ongoing communication and regularly eliciting feedback from members. The PSP Taskforce has been in existence since CHI’s founding in 2003. The Advocacy Taskforce convened for the first time in 2007. The Data Advisory Group met for the first time in April 2009.

Advocacy Taskforce
The Advocacy Taskforce has as its task to provides Supervisory Board advice on all issues relating to advocacy efforts from the CHI network and the child helplines. Also, the Taskforce guides and directs the policies of the network on advocacy issues. The representatives in the taskforce provide essential grass roots experience on advocacy issues and input from the regions they represent. Important issues discussed by the Taskforce are the CHI Violence Against Children follow reports, CHI awareness raising activities and products, such as 17 May (International Child Helpline Day) and facts sheets based on CHI data, and CHI partnerships.

Developing Principles, Standards and Practices
Child helplines across the world have different operational models and work in different economic conditions. Some child helplines have a more direct intervention model, while others may be counselling or referral based. Some are independent organisations whilst others are part of larger organisations, some may have a more volunteer-based staffing structure as compared to others that have more professionals. Still, CHI members feel that all child helplines must meet certain criteria in order to ensure that each child has access to a quality service.

Therefore, CHI has developed a Principles, Standards and Practices checklist (PSP checklist), which initially had 2 objectives: to assist child helplines in assessing their strengths and weaknesses and to in identify needs in the network. As of 2007, completion of the checklist is mandatory for all members of CHI and serves as one step in the membership criteria that has been developed by network. Below is a list of current regional taskforce representatives.
